So, what to do when you are in a hairy situation? Really? I am talking about hair right now, not the sticky situations that we often get into.. idk about you, but I long to have straight, strong and smooth hair. The 3 Ss of healthy hair. Straight is relative, I am not saying that curly is bad, but hair that curls due to frizz and moisture is not ideal either. I tried everything to keep my hair from frizzing. From oiling, to using anti-frizz shampoos, to applying hair masks, to using after wash serums and creams, to tight-blow drying after doing all the steps I mentioned; things are, well, the same. It could be the humidity of the Indian weather- summer is at its peak here, it could be the salty sea air making my hair textured, or it could be hormonal changes.
There’s not much I can do to change the weather. I stay indoors and I use all the hair care to keep my hair straight, but frizz still happens. What can we do to minimise it? Well, Google is saying to keep the hair up, use anti frizz shampoo and conditioner, dry your hair with microfibre towel and try keratin treatment. I hate the salons. I go like once a year for a trim and the exact same hairstyle I had ever since I realised that side fringe is emo and not for me. It has been nice, all these years, with my hair being cooperative with me. But it also hadn’t been so hot. Age is a factor too. So, despite doing everything except keratin treatment, idk, maybe I will consider it, things have not improved, in fact, they have gotten worse. So, we can’t change the weather. We can move to a cooler climate state/country though. But let’s see.
So next is the location of where I live. By the sea. The salt air is acrid. It rots even the metals, and this still my hair we are talking about. Google is suggesting to use a leave in conditioner when going to the beach, which for me will be all the time. But see, the problem is, using all these weighty products, drags my hair down and makes it shapeless and dense. And I don’t like to wash my hair more than twice a week. It’s a vicious circle. I just don’t know what to do.
The only thing that could be a cause is the age and the hormones that is causing an internal shift in the quality of my hair. In case you didn’t know, I am a woman in my mid 20s. Hormones change constantly and mine are no different. It could be the lifestyle habits that are contributing to my hormonal shift. Like eating out often, sleeping late, drinking too much coffee and the likes. Not giving proper nutrition to my hair could also be a factor as to why I and probably you too, have poor hair health.
So, what I am understanding from this so far is, there are short term and long-term solutions for the frizz situation. Short term is hair smoothening, keratin treatment, hair botox and the like, for a quick hassle-free albeit expensive ₹₹₹ solution. And the long-term solution is to be happy with the curls, manage frizz with decently priced hair care products and embrace the change. Could consult a doctor to check the hormones and rule out PCOS or thyroid issues, but the meds for it could hardly be helping your hair, I think. Idk, not a doctor. But yeah, if you do have those issues, and you do live in a humid, salty aired climate like me and are tired of the frizz, you can do a keratin treatment, it’s better than straightening your hair every other day in my opinion. You are one and done with it for at least 6-8 months. You can already tell which way I am leaning towards, no but I kid. I will let the summer go and see if there are any changes to my hair before committing my money to such a treatment. If you are going through this, know that you are not alone as I am in the same boat. Catch you in my next one.
